Using fresh peaches

I preferred fresh peaches for this recipe because nothing says summer to me like fresh peaches.

At first I wasn’t going to peel them because….. I’m lazy.

But my 11 year-old son insisted saying it would taste better if we peeled them.

That and the fact that he offered to peel them is why we did it that way.

  • Peel the peach (optional)
  • Slice open the peach from top to bottom and all the way around.
  • Use your thumb to pluck or push out the pit.
  • Cut into small bit sized pieces.
Added the sugar to our slices peaches
Vanilla extract is optional -we added two teaspoons to our sliced peaches

Mixing with Sugar and Spices

  • Toss peaches with sugar, and 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract (optional) until the peaches are well coated.

Assembling and Baking the Cobbler

Combining the Peach Filling and Cake Mix

  • Pour peach filling into a baking dish.
  • Top with cake mix mixture, spreading evenly.
Pouring the peaches slices that have been tossed in sugar and a little vanilla into the glass pan for cooking

Add butter

  • We opted to slice finely a stick of butter and then layer it on the cake batter.
  • When we made the cherry dump cake we poured melted butter on the cake mix but we thought putting a fine layer of butter on top and them cooking might allow the butter to spread more evening.
  • We liked it!
We sliced the butter and put a thin layer on top for even cooking

Baking Instructions and Cooking Time

  • Bake at 350°F for about 45 minutes or until golden brown.
