Craving a dessert that’s both easy to make and delicious? Try this peach cobbler with cake mix recipe.
This delightful twist on a classic Southern favorite combines the juicy sweetness of ripe peaches with the comfort of a crusty cakey topping.
I recently made this super easy treat with my son and daughter. We loved the cherry dump cake we made recently Really the kids could have just done it without me it was seriously that simple.
And it’s really just 4 little ingredients.
I was a big hit with my family so we’ll make it again. Let’s jump right in.
Ingredients for Peach Cobbler with Cake Mix
Essential Ingredients
- Yellow cake mix (or white cake mix or you could use spice cake mix)
- Fresh peaches (you could use canned if you prefer)
- Butter (I used salted butter but you could also you unsalted butter if that’s what you have)
- Sugar (I used white sugar but you could substitute with brown sugar if that’s what you have)
Optional Ingredients
- Ground Cinnamon
- Vanilla
- Brown sugar
- Nutmeg
- Whipped cream
Preparing the Peach Filling
Thawing Frozen Peaches
- If using frozen peaches, thaw them first before using.
- You can thaw them by leaving them at room temperature or by microwaving them according to package instructions.
Using fresh peaches
I preferred fresh peaches for this recipe because nothing says summer to me like fresh peaches.
At first I wasn’t going to peel them because….. I’m lazy.
But my 11 year-old son insisted saying it would taste better if we peeled them.
That and the fact that he offered to peel them is why we did it that way.
- Peel the peach (optional)
- Slice open the peach from top to bottom and all the way around.
- Use your thumb to pluck or push out the pit.
- Cut into small bit sized pieces.
Mixing with Sugar and Spices
- Toss peaches with sugar, and 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract (optional) until the peaches are well coated.
Assembling and Baking the Cobbler
Combining the Peach Filling and Cake Mix
- Pour peach filling into a baking dish.
- Top with cake mix mixture, spreading evenly.
Add butter
- We opted to slice finely a stick of butter and then layer it on the cake batter.
- When we made the cherry dump cake we poured melted butter on the cake mix but we thought putting a fine layer of butter on top and them cooking might allow the butter to spread more evening.
- We liked it!
Baking Instructions and Cooking Time
- Bake at 350°F for about 45 minutes or until golden brown.
- Check for doneness by making sure the top layer is golden brown and seeing a bubbling action on top.
Serving Suggestions
Serving with Vanilla Ice Cream
- Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. We made our own homemade ice cream.
- Top with whipped cream for an extra-special treat.
Other Topping Options
- Try using other toppings like whipped topping or a dollop of whipped cream. You could even drizzle some melted caramel over the top.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I Use Fresh Peaches?
Yes, you can use fresh peaches instead of canned peaches. I preferred that since I wanted to use some fresh summer peaches we picked up.
Simply slice the peaches and use them in place of the canned peaches.
How Long Does Peach Cobbler Last?
If stored in an airtight container in the fridge, this peach cobbler will last up to a week.
Does it matter what kind of dry cake mix I use?
I like yellow cake mix personally. But I know plenty of people have used white cake mix and been very happy. I think it’s just personal preference. What matters is you cook it to a delicious golden brown.
