Valentines Day Decor: easy ways to elevate the romance

Valentine’s Day is coming at us quickly, and what better way to embrace the spirit of love than by adding some Valentines day decor to your space? When the holiday decorations come down, things can look a little empty. While I crave the clean look, warming things up with some hearts and the look of love is a welcome sight as well.

Whether you’re celebrating with that special someone, joining a Galentine’s get-together, or embracing self-appreciation, the right decor can enhance the day. In this blog post, we’ll explore creative ideas to add to your home and make magic on Valentine’s Day.

Creating festive Valentines Day decor

For me, a little goes a long way when it comes to Valentines Day decor. I used to never decorate for this holiday but not that I have kids, I put out a few key pieces. A sweetheart garland or some pink and red colored tulips can warm up the space and set the stage for affection. Oh and don’t forget, Valentine’s Day 2024 is Thursday, February 14th. For more on the history and gift ideas read this.

Take a page from the coffee loves book, and snuggle up with something and someONE warm and cuddly.

Classic Colors… or not

Of course, you can incorporate the traditional colors of devotion: red, pink, and white. You can always infuse these hues into various elements around the house for a cohesive look.

I do love a little something unexpected thought. Like when a decorator adds bright pops of yellow to Christmas decor. The same goes for Valentine’s Day decorations. Don’t be afraid to switch it up and add a different color or shape to the traditional look.

Romantic Lighting

Lighting is everything. In life and on this particular holiday. There’s no better time to go way overboard with the candles. Consider using fairy lights or string lights to add a soft glow to the room.

Add flowers but don’t overthink it

Flowers, especially roses, are the staple of the holiday but I actually prefer NOT to do roses on this day. Not to be unromantic, but they’re overpriced around Valentine’s Day and they quickly die. If you are going to do flowers, consider unconventionally presenting them, like this vase full of conversation hearts.

Add a simple statement piece

A quick pillow change or bright towel can change the look

Adding a simple change, like a pink pillow to your normally all-gray couch, can instantly make you feel in the mood to celebrate. Not sure I can pull it off, but this lip pillow pictured above I found online cracks me up! My daughter would want it! You can also add a red towel to the kitchen for an easy update.

Nothing says love like a beautifully set table

Save a seat for love. I love the idea of having a perfectly set table to celebrate Valentine’s Day but it seems like a lot of work for one day. If you’re like me and like to save money, consider incorporating paper Valentine’s plates along with real ones since you’re probably not going to use heart plates all year.

Celebrate with a delicious Charcuterie board

Charcuterie boards are all the rage right now. These are especially fun if you’re planning an evening with your girlfriends or a special Galentine’s Day event. That’s when the girls get together around Valentine’s Day.

There are loads of ideas for these on any Pinterest or Instagram page but I especially like the bright reds of the strawberries and other items on the board above. The skies are the limit when it comes to Valentine’s Day charcuterie boards. See my other favorite ideas for a Valentines charcuterie board here.
