What to Write in a Book for a Baby Shower
It’s a joyful time, but, honestly, wondering what to write in a book for a baby shower can be stressful.
It shouldn’t be hard.
And yet it can be.
Coming up with the perfect message to summarize all your lifelong hopes and dreams for baby in one perfectly worded page.
Not to mention if you screw it up and scratch it out, it’ll be on the book page forever.
Maybe if you’re prone to mistakes, use a pencil.
Many baby shower hosts I’ve been to lately request guests bring their favorite book or new mom and baby instead of a traditional card. It’s a great gift for new parents and a new baby alike. So here are some ideas for you to adequately share your heartfelt hopes, advice, and well-wishes for the growing family.

Thoughtful Messages for the Baby- What to Write in a Book for a Baby Shower
You can’t go wrong if you take the time to be thoughtful.
Don’t be afraid to add your personal touch. The message doesn’t need to be long, wordy, or perfect. It just needs to be from YOU.
Maybe you want to write something special at the front of the book you’re gifting the new baby or you’re looking for the right words to add to a baby’s first year album.
There’s a reason the mom-to-be wanted you to be part of the celebration for her new child. Write something from the heart, and don’t overthink it.
Include a personal story in the baby book
If you’re blanking on what to write, and considering going to Chat GPT, just stop.
Breathe.
Get personal. Think about what that particular book means to you and your family. Reminisce about what the book meant to you as a child. Who gave it to you or how did you acquire it? What sweet memories do you have of reading it yourself or reading it to a loved one? Was the book nearby when something memorable happened in your home?
Discuss a sweet story that happened between you and the baby’s parents – share a memory!
All of that is gold for including in your message.
For the shower I attended recently where I brought the book Someday included with my homemade diaper cake as a gift, I included a personal message in the front of it.
I said it’s one of my favorite books, and every time I bring it out, my children ask me if I will cry again.
You can never go wrong when you keep it personal. Write from the heart and keep it short and sweet.
Encourage a Love for Reading
There’s a strong correlation between reading and being a successful person.
Studies have found those who read consistently tend to be higher achievers. They do better in school and eventually make more money than those who don’t.
It helps you develop critical thinking skills, improves memory, and boosts creativity.
Obviously, you’re probably not going to write that in the front of the child’s book but encouraging them to read exposes you to a variety of new ideas and concepts.
And that helps you learn and grow.
Reading is transformative.
It opens up the possibility of new worlds, adventures, and experiences.
There’s also a really special bonding that happens between parent and child when they read. It strengthens family ties – and offers an opportunity to snuggle – which is my favorite!
Include humor in the Baby Shower Book
If you’ve got a funny story about that book or something that happened with the baby’s mom or dad that’s comical, you could always include it.
Just make sure Mom and Dad find it funny, and not embarrassing. This is a day of celebration and not a time to make anyone uncomfortable. Humor is an awesome thing to include if possible.
Don’t know what to write but want to use humor? Take inspiration from the section below:
- “Congratulations on your newest production! May your little star always steal the show.”
- “Welcome to the world of sleepless nights and endless love! Remember, coffee is your friend.”
- “Warning: This book may cause uncontrollable bouts of laughter and an overwhelming desire to cuddle your baby.”
