Book Bouquet: How to Easily Make One in 7 Minutes

Book bouquet- If you’re looking for a unique and creative gift idea, a book bouquet is a fun choice!

Combining the charm of flowers with the love of reading. A book bouquet is such a thoughtful and personalized way to celebrate something special.

I had never seen this until recently, and I think it’s such a fun alternative to a traditional bouquet.

Whether it’s a birthday gift, anniversary present, Mother’s Day gift idea, or just because, this fun DIY project lets you create a beautiful, meaningful, and pretty book arrangement.

My sisters and I are always sharing book recommendations with each other. You could pick a theme, like springtime or summer novel or even go with a murder mystery theme for all the books you include.

In this post, we’ll walk you through the steps to make your very own book bouquet, from selecting the right books to arranging them beautifully.

Let’s get started!

Supplies you'll need, books, ribbon, cellophane, scissors, wooden dowels

Book Bouquet Supplies

  • Books (3 is probably best so it doesn’t get overly heavy)
  • Scissors
  • Cellophane
  • Brown parchment paper or colored paper
  • Duct tape
  • Regular tape
  • Wood sticks – dowels are best. Could also use paint stirrer sticks or kabob skewers – just watch out for that sharp point!
  • Flowers – real, fake or paper – this is optional
  • Ribbon

Preparing the Books for the Book Bouquet

  • Choose books with a personal significance to the recipient. Think about what they’re interested in or want to learn about. Is your friend into murder mysteries? Nothing says, “I’m thinking of you” quite like a good novel about killing. Kidding – kind of. Maybe summer is approaching so you could do an entire theme on summer romance novels.
  • Consider the color scheme of the books and how they will complement each other in the bouquet.
  • 3 is likely the best number of books to use so it doesn’t get too bulky. You could use more if they’re lighter.
  • I think this would make a great Valentine’s Day Gift For Him– so think about what the man in your life likes, maybe a theme of books on the best bourbon.
  • Use a browser to search for book recommendations or browse a website for inspiration.

Step-by-Step Guide to Assembling the Bouquet

  • Wrap the books in cellophane and tape them like you would a gift. This protects them from moisture and damage if you include real flowers. It also gives you something to tape the wooden stick to so it doesn’t damage the book.
  • Attach books (in cellophane) to wooden sticks. Kabob skewers or paint mixer sticks are easy options. Duct tape the wooden sticks to the books.
  • Duct tape the bottoms of the wooden sticks together.
  • Make sure the books are at varying heights so you can see them.
  • Fold tissue paper, colored paper or brown parchment into a fan shape and layer it to create a bouquet-like structure.
  • Fold the paper around the book sticks.
  • Add fresh or faux flowers to fill in and add color to the bouquet.
  • Attach a paper or card with a personal message to the bouquet, expressing your love and appreciation for the recipient.
  • Arrange the books in so they look pretty in the arrangement.

Adding Embellishments

  • Use paper to decorate it- with things like paper flowers or leaves. You can take the pages of vintage books and make paper flowers with them. Beautiful.
  • Add a decorative pin or clip to the bouquet.
  • Consider adding a small gift or token to the bouquet, such as a bookmark or a small memento.
  • Use tape to secure any loose ends or attachments, making sure the bouquet is stable and secure.
  • Lastly, fluff out the tissue paper and flowers to create a lush look
