If you want something a little fun and different this is the spot to do it.

I have a bunch of trees in my house but my Grinch tree in my laundry room is probably my favorite.

It’s comical and cute and just makes me happy – a feeling I don’t usually have when headed to do laundry!

In this blog post, I’ll guide you through creating a one-of-a-kind Grinch-inspired Christmas tree that will steal the show and take your Grinch Decor to new levels!

It’s easier than you think and super fun to do!

Ordered a Grinch arm – removed the ornament it and added a sock – since it’s in the laundry room

Step 1: Selecting the Perfect Tree:

Start by choosing a tree that fits your space. I chose a flocked artificial pencil tree for my Grinch Christmas tree. It’s a regular tree but they make really cute green Grinch trees that actually lean.

I don’t have a ton of space in my laundry room, so the pencil tree with a diameter of about a foot is the perfect size.

Also, I love that it’s pre-lit and comes in 3 easy-to-put-together parts so it takes about 2 minutes to put up.

I’ve got 4 kids so I don’t have much extra time to be fighting with assembling a tree.

I put my laundry room Christmas tree in a red laundry bag of course instead of using a basket or traditional tree skirt. I didn't have to hand an lights as it already came pre-lit.

Step 2: Green with Envy Decor:

The Grinch tree is all about the green.

Decorate your tree with green ornaments, baubles, and tinsel.

Pretty much anything green you can find!

I painted a November fall sign I already owned with the Grinch's signature color and added the words stink, stank stunk. It's going to live in the laundry room so it makes sense to add that touch.
Grinch Christmas tree- Because mine is a laundry room Christmas tree, I filled clear ball decorations with used dryer sheets.
I filled clear ornaments with laundry sheets since my tree is in the laundry room.
Laundry pods in clear plastic ornaments to go alaong with the laundry tree theme
Put laundry pod in the clear ornaments since my tree is in the laundry room. I wouldn’t do this if you have little kids or pets who could try to eat it.
I also like to hang these adorable Elf sweaters on the Grinch Christmas tree as it make it especially cute.
I love these adorable Elf sweaters.

Step 3: Grinch Ornaments

If you’re crafty, you can make your own Grinch ornaments.

If not, there are plenty of super cute Grinch Ornaments that you can order.

Since mine is in my laundry room I went all in on the laundry theme.

I filled clear empty plastic Christmas ornaments with used dryer sheets. I thought they were cute and it fills up a lot of space on the Christmas tree for a tiny price.

I also filled clear ornaments that pop open in the middle, with laundry detergent pods. NOTE- I would NOT do this if you have small children or pets in the house who can reach these or might ingest them. That would make them very sick so it’s not worth the risk.

I also ordered miniature Christmas sweaters on little hangers and other small outfits. I added a couple of Santa ornaments and lots of red balls.

If you’re not the DIY type there are tons of cute Grinch ornaments online.

I made this sign sign to go along with the Grinch Christmas ornaments

Step 4: Whimsical Grinch Tree Topper:

No Grinch tree is complete without a show-stopping tree topper.

Instead of a star or angel, go for a Grinch head or a Santa hat as the top of your masterpiece

I painted a Dollar Tree Fall sign black and added the words “Stink. Stank. Stunk.” That’s my tree-topper.

You can find pre-made toppers or make your own to fit your tree’s theme.

Step 5: Grinchy Ribbon and Garland:

Add to the Grinchy vibe by incorporating ribbons and garlands in various textures and patterns.

Look for ribbons featuring the Grinch’s face, Santa hats, or quotes from the beloved Dr. Seuss story.

I completed my Grinch Christmas tree with some red and green ribbon that I thought added the perfect touch.

Step 6: Maximize the Mischief:

To truly capture the Grinch’s mischievous spirit, consider incorporating elements that evoke the character’s antics.

Hang mini stockings with “stolen” treats, such as small wrapped candies or ornaments, around the tree.

I included a Grinch arm in my tree. It’s supposed to be holding a red ornament but I swapped out my ornament for a red sock since I’m going with the laundry room theme.

I also filled Grinch pants with balloons and then bent them into the tree so it looked like the Grinch was leaning into the tree to steal ornaments.

If you want to add some adorable Grinch gift wrapping there are loads of cute options out there.

Step 7: Illuminating the Grinch:

Complete the look by selecting the right lights for your Grinch Christmas tree.

I like to go for classic white or lights for a cozy feel but colored ones would also be cute here since it’s just a colorful tree.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas Tree
Instead of a tree skirt, I put my tree in a red laundry bag since it’s in the laundry room.

Step 8: Finish it off with a creative tree skirt or bottom

Don’t forget the tree skirt! You can get creative with what you decide to put at the bottom.

Since mine is in my laundry room, I put my tree in a red laundry bag. Turned out so cute!

Don’t stop at the tree, I’ve got loads of Grinch decoration ideas for the rest of the house!

The Grinch has been sharing laughs to rave reviews since the 1950s with his distinct green color delivered courtesy of Dr. Suess.

Creation of the Grinch:

The Grinch, one of the most iconic characters of Christmas, came from the creative mind of Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss. The children’s book titled “How the Grinch Stole Christmas!” was published in 1957.

The idea for the Grinch reportedly came to Dr. Seuss while he was taking a shower. He looked in the mirror and envisioned a character with a “sour, sweet sort of face” and then created the Grinch—a green, grouchy creature with a heart “two sizes too small.”

In “How the Grinch Stole Christmas!” Dr. Seuss tells the story of the Grinch, who despises the festivities of Christmas and steals all the presents and decorations from the Whos in Whoville. However, the Grinch learns the true meaning of Christmas, and his heart transforms.

Random fun fact: I went to Dr. Suess’s private house in San Diego years ago as a news reporter when a life-sized Lorax statue was stolen from the yard. I didn’t get inside the home as his widow was extremely private, but the property was beautiful!

Tons of cute Grinch decorations and a delightful ornament or two for you to decorate with if you're shopping at Hobby Lobby.
