The Best Christmas Door Decorations to Wow The Neighbors

Classic Christmas Door Decorations

There’s something so fun about turning your house into a winter wonderland, starting with Christmas door decorations

After all, it’s the first thing guests see when they arrive, and it sets the tone for all the fun and warmth inside.

Since we ripped out our ugly turquoise front door with side panels and added beautiful double-arched mahogany ones that I found at an architectural salvage spot, I’ve LOVED decorating them!

I recently made them into a Mummy Halloween door.

But now it’s on to Christmas! (Sorry Thanksgiving, we love you too, you’re just less glittery)

Whether you like a classic wreath, glittering ornaments, or twinkling lights – or ALL of them like me – door decor is a great way to show off your style.

Let’s get into some ideas to make your entrance the star of the season!

1. Classic Greenery

A timeless choice, this style features fresh or fake evergreen wreaths with added ribbons, pinecones, and berries.

It makes everything all warm and inviting.

Also sometimes less is more when decorating for the holidays. It doesn’t always have to be so over-the-top. Says the girl who always likes to go over the top! Just sayin.’ It doesn’t ALWAYS have to be that way!

2. Rustic Charm

Decorate with burlap, wooden signs, and natural elements like dried oranges or cinnamon sticks to give your home a cozy, farmhouse feel.

It’s perfect for a laid-back look.

Bonus points if you can find an adorable dog to sit next to your door like the one pictured above. My Golden Retriever will only sit like that for about 1/2 a second so I’d have to be quick with the snapshot!

This would make a great background for your Holiday Christmas photos.

Incorporating the pattern in small portions can go a long way in beautifying your Christmas decorations.

4. Whimsical Wonderland

Get playful with colorful ornaments, funky shapes, and quirky characters. For a fun and cheerful entrance, add a Santa or snowman.

7. Welcoming and Hospitable with Fresh Fruit

Growing up in South Carolina we used to drive around the neighborhood on Christmas Eve after church looking at all the decorated homes.

Our family would vote and we’d designate a holiday “winner.” My mom would write them a note letting them know the Foxes deemed their house the best decorated.

It mortified me as a teen.

But one thing I noticed is that many of the homes included fresh fruit, especially pineapple over the doorways.

I never knew why. It’s actually a sign of welcome and hospitality that dates back to the early 20th century.

8. Vintage Vibes

Incorporate nostalgic elements like retro ornaments, antique sleds, or old-fashioned signs.

Does anybody have an old wagon wheel hanging around? Make it a wreath! I love finding new ways to incorporate older or vintage pieces.

This style brings some history and warmth to your door.

Celebrate the beauty of the outdoors with decorations that include stuff you can find in the yard but still look pretty.

I also love the idea of incorporating magnolia leaves like the picture above. One day I’ll have a magnolia tree and I’ll do this with my own leaves!

10. DIY Personal Touch

Craft your own decorations with handmade wreaths, personalized ornaments, or family photo displays.

This can showcase your creativity and make your entryway uniquely yours.

You can add your address or last name or maybe a gingerbread man wreath that represents each of your family members.

This fun style is sure to make everyone smile!

13. Themed Color Palette

Choose a specific color scheme—like red and white or blue and silver—and coordinate your decorations accordingly.

This cohesive look creates a polished and intentional holiday look.

I love the idea of incorporating various shades of blue into my holiday decor – even though blue isn’t really a traditional Christmas color. The above-pictured garland and wreath are over a fireplace but could easily be placed on a front door.
