How to create the coziest holiday bedroom ever
First, you don’t have to break the bank.
Think about what you already own and how you can incorporate it in a new and merry way.
Maybe you already own some fake or real candles.
How about adding a bunch of silver bells around them?
Maybe you have some leftover garland or greenery from last year. Find a new spot to add it to the bedroom. Add that holiday blanket you scored at the office party to the end of your bed to give your everyday sleeping spot a little lift.
Warm and Inviting Bedding for your Christmas bedroom
Start by updating your bedding with soft, festive fabrics.
Consider flannel sheets, cozy knit blankets, and holiday-themed pillowcases. Choose colors that embrace the spirit of Christmas. We’re talking deep reds, forest greens, and crisp whites. This is especially easy to do if you have plain bedding to start with, like I do. Switch it out for plaid comforter like the one above and you’re good to go!
I would eventually love to have Christmas bedding and specific holiday comforters for each room in my house.
I would switch over to those at the end of November or the beginning of December at the start of the Christmas season. I’m not ready to buy that yet or to store it for 11 months out of the year.
So for now, I’m just adding the accent pieces to change things up. There are decently-priced throw pillows and holiday blankets all over the place that will do the trick when added to your everyday bedding. For my own bedroom, I simply added a red pillow and plaid red blanket to my plain beige bedding.
Consider your color scheme
There’s no way to go wrong here. I’d just consider which two or three colors you want to stick to and then find ways to incorporate those.
I wanted to use a lot of whites, beiges, and gold in my room because that’s what I was drawn to. It’s peaceful to me. I did want to add a pop of red so I did that with the pillow and throw blanket. A little bit of color goes a long way in my room.
Twinkling Lights for Ambiance:
String lights aren’t just for the tree. I do love the look of Christmas lights.
Drape them along your headboard or arrange them in a canopy above your bed to create a soft, magical ambiance.
Opt for soft white lights to give your bedroom a cozy, inviting glow.
Also, battery-powered small fairy lights that come on simultaneously each evening can easily be added to a Christmas wreath and hung above the bed for extra romance
I have a wooden arch in my room that I got from the store Arhaus instead of a traditional headboard.
I hung a lighted garland with greenery along the archway and I love the way it turned out. I also added a sparkly deer head as well that gives the perfect festive feel. There’s something about adding those twinkle lights that’s beautiful and offers that cozy glow.
Festive Throw Pillows:
Adorn your bed with a collection of festive throw pillows featuring holiday motifs like snowflakes, reindeer, or classic Christmas patterns.
If you’ve got a chair, couch, or other sitting space this is a no-brainer “throw” a cute holiday throw pillow on there to instantly decorate the space.
Scented Candles and Diffusers:
Add some scented candles or essential oil diffusers with smells like cinnamon, pine, or vanilla.
Isn’t it amazing what a scent can do to contribute to the sense of coziness?
Even if you don’t have a ton of Christmas bedroom decorations, the smell can take you there in no time.
DIY Christmas Decor:
Get crafty with some do-it-yourself Christmas decorations. Create a festive garland to drape across your headboard or make your personalized ornaments to hang from the bedposts.
Doing DIY projects not only adds a personal touch but it’s also a fun way to spend a winter afternoon.
If you don’t have a big budget for this, Goodwill or thrift shops are a great place to look.
You can use smaller cheaper items to inspire great Christmas decorating ideas. You can find greenery on the cheap and you can easily add balls, lights, ribbon, decorations, or whatever you want to boost your holiday cheer.
Cozy Reading Nook:
Dedicate a corner of your bedroom to a cozy reading nook.
Place a plush chair or floor cushions, add a soft throw blanket, and stack a few holiday-themed books. It’s the perfect spot to unwind with a cup of hot cocoa and a good book on a chilly winter night.
Even if you don’t have time to sit there, the fact that you’ve got the space in your Christmas-themed bedroom will add to your Christmas and festive cheer anyway.
Faux Fur and Chunky Knits:
Introduce textures that scream comfort.
Lay down a faux fur rug, drape a chunky knit blanket at the foot of your bed, or add plush, oversized pillows. They not only up the cozy vibe but also make your bedroom feel luxurious.
Holiday sign or Bible verse:
For my Christmas bedroom, I found a sign that reads, “Sleep in heavenly peace.”
I decided to hang that above the bed frame.
I love that it references sleeping. I also appreciate that it’s a nod to the classic Christmas song.
You could also use one that references “silent night” or even a Christmas Bible verse.
Christmas Tree in the Bedroom:
If you’ve got the space, put a Christmas tree in your bedroom.
Decorate it with small ornaments and twinkling lights for a touch of holiday magic.
No matter its size, a tree can instantly transform your house into a festive spot especially if you find the perfect tree topper.
For mine, I opted for a flocked 7-foot-tall pencil tree. I love the small diameter of the tree as it doesn’t take up too much room. It adds the perfect light and gives the bedroom a cozy feel.
I add a few white and cream ornaments to it as well as some glittery fake magnolias. They take up a good amount of space between branches and they’re super pretty.
Include the kids’ bedrooms:
I have added a small tree to each of my kids’ rooms.
They look forward to it each year adding the colored fairy lights and ornaments.
I love that they’re all different and there’s something super sweet about having a quaint little tree in a child’s bedroom.
It touches my heart to look in while they’re sleeping and see their sweet faces in the glow of the holiday season. Plus it’s the only time they’re quiet!
I have the most fun Grinch Christmas tree in my laundry room and I think that would be a cute theme to have a in a kid’s bedroom. Now I just have to add some Grinch themed wrapped gifts to that tree and I’ll be good to go!
Don’t forget the guest bedroom:
If you’re having guests this holiday season, don’t forget about that space.
You can get some small Christmas trees or a little tabletop tree to give that room a little festive flourish.
Even just a little $10 tree from Hobby Lobby with some fairy lights and a few red ornaments near the bed frame can warm things up and make the space feel extra inviting. Y
ou can also swap out the picture frames in there for the Christmas season with holiday artwork from your kids.
It’s the perfect way to add a little fun to the decor and also makes your children feel special by hanging their masterpieces. Also, it’s a budget-friendly way to add holiday cheer to the room.
There are loads of Christmas tree decorating ideas out there to choose from.
