Who is Morticia Addams?
Morticia Addams is the woman who makes darkness look good. She’s the queen of all things spooky and stylish. Morticia isn’t your average suburban soccer mom, and she’s got a wicked sense of humor to match her wicked wardrobe.
He’s part of the Addams family world, a weird and wonderful clan. They don’t care what anyone else thinks and are content to dress and do as they please. They’re all about the strange, the creepy, and the supernatural. Think Uncle Fester, Gomez, Wednesday, Pugsley, and a hand-loving character named Thing.

What you need to create your Morticia Addams Costume
The devil is in the details here, so let’s dive in.
The Dress
The Black Dress: First things first, you’ll need to wear a dark dress. It should be long, elegant, and as black as the night sky. If it’s got a little train to sweep dramatically around, even better. It’s like a black hole of fashion – in the best way possible. i made sure to get something that I could wear again – I haven’t done so yet but that was the idea.
The Hair
The Hair: Morticia’s hair is straighter than a ruler and blacker than a raven’s wing. If your locks aren’t naturally in line with this gothic vision, invest in a wig that screams “Morticia.” We’re talking sleek, shiny, and positively bewitching.
Make-Up
Makeup Magic: To truly embody Morticia, you’ll need makeup that’s as ghostly as a ghost can be. Think pale skin, dark, smoky eyes, and lips as red as blood (or at least as red as a high-quality lipstick can provide).
Shoes
Shoes: You could go one of several ways here. You could rock some cool black stilettos but you could also opt for chunky buckle-up boots. You could also opt for some sparkle heels with your dark ensemble. Your dress will likely be long enough that you might not see the shoes all that well so just keep that mind when putting it all together.
Accessories to Die For: Don’t forget the finishing touches – like some statement jewelry (preferably with a hint of the macabre). Consider a black choker or chunky dark rings.
Oh, and nails so sharp they could put vampires to shame. Now you’re ready. I found these cool black and red nails online. I love how they’re black on top and red underneath. It reminds me of the sort Louis Vuitton would make if he ever deviated from shoes.
If the black and red nails aren’t your thing, how about some dark Beetlejuice inspired press-on nails. I’m pretty sure Morticia and Beetlejuice would be friends if they met!
Also, this matriarch is known to snip the heads off roses since Gomez is allergic. So don’t be afraid to accessorize with a rose and scissors.
DIY or Buy? That Is the Question
You might wonder whether to go DIY or buy a ready-made costume. It all depends on your level of craftiness. If you’re skilled with sewing DIY might be the way to go. But if sewing isn’t your thing, there are plenty of store-bought options that make it super simple.
If you already own a long black dress, I’d try it first before I tried to purchase something new. Also, probably any pair of heels will do because if you have on a long dress, few people will see them. I like to save my costumes to try to wear again so consider buying something you’ll use another time.
Morticia Magic on a Budget
Worried about breaking the bank while channeling your inner Addams? There are ways to achieve Morticia’s style without haunting your wallet.
Sort through second-hand shops, thrift stores, or online marketplaces for budget-friendly black dresses and items to go with it as a variety of styles could get the results you’re after.
At the end of the day, a long black dress is a long black dress so grab the one on sale if possible and that will do the trick.
Morticia would appreciate a good deal after all. You can find black dresses on sale, too, online.
Finishing Touches: Channeling Your Inner Morticia
Once you’ve got the look down, it’s time to turn off the filter and channel your inner Morticia. Start by perfecting your enigmatic gaze – you know, that look that says, “I know your secrets, and I find them amusing.”
Also, if you want to get great pictures. Canva offers a variety of fun backgrounds and a cool filter or two you can add to any fun family photo.
Other Morticia Adamms who slayed their costumes
The Addams family costumes are a great choice for Halloween for a group, coworkers or family. Even babies can look adorable dressing up as the family. Wednesday Addams is especially adorable when embodied by little girls who can channel the sullen character by looking as despondent as possible.
The family pictured above and posted by Alisa Maria did an especially good job portraying the spooky family. Morticia is especially glam and the Cousin It looks like it may be a doll but it’s cute.
The family pictured above by Emily Roessner did an excellent job. The use of the props like a skull and Lurch’s duster are especially nice touches.
The Morticia and Wednesday pictured above by photographer York in a Box look especially glamour in my opinion.
