We’re getting closer to that magical time of year when we embrace our inner weirdness and dress up as whoever (or whatever) we want—if only for one night.
Every year, my husband, four kids, and I vote on a family costume for our annual church trunk-or-treat. On Halloween night, the kids can dress up as whatever they like—preferably something we already own.
We’ve done Mary Poppins, Addams Family, and Grease to name a few.
But it’s always fun to embrace something totally on trend- and timely. Think about current events and recent pop culture- the funnier the better in my opinion.
So, grab a pumpkin spice latte, settle in, and let’s dive into some of the best Halloween costume ideas for 2025.

In my opinion, the following list includes what I predict will be some of the most popular costumes- drawing on current events and looking at popular recent movies.

1. KPop Demon Hunters
I just recently moved this to the top of my list because EVERYONE I know is talking about this as a Halloween costume this year. 2. Taylor Swift Costume (especially as a Bride!)
Okay- I know this one was crazy popular in 2024 but I think we’re going to see it again this year especially with the big engagement news. It’s just too fun and it also makes for the perfect duo Halloween costume! with the addition of Travis Kelce. Grab a sparkly dress and cute veil and you’re good to go!

3. Wicked
Like, duh. This one is a no-brainer with the smash hit of the movie released in late 2024. I think Wicked costumes are going to be huge for 2026.
The iconic characters of Elphaba and Glinda are instantly recognizable and they make the perfect duo Halloween costume!
4. Wednesday Addams
Wednesday Addams costumes will remain a top choice for Halloween 2026. That’s fueled by the enduring popularity of the character and the success of the hit Netflix series Wednesday, which introduces her to a new generation.
We did Addams family for our family costume a few years back and my girls were both Wednesday Addams which is such a cute and easy costume.
5. Deadpool and Wolverine
Deadpool and Wolverine costumes will be top picks for Halloween 2026. There is so much excitement surrounding the “Deadpool 3” movie and the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.

6. Inside Out:
Inside Out costumes are bound to be a Halloween favorite in 2026, fueled by the release of Inside Out 2 over the summer of 2024. We were introduced to new emotions Anxiety, Envy, Embarrassment, and Ennui.
7. Coldplay Kiss Cam CEO and HR Chief
Another crazy pop culture moment from 2026 – when the CEO and HR Chief got caught embracing on the Coldplay concert kiss cam. This one would be super easy to do. All you need is a CEO t-shirt and an HR Chief t-shirt.
Grab a blonde wig for the lady and a salt-and-pepper wig for the gentleman and you’re good to go. This one would be great for someone like my husband, who doesn’t love to dress up in a big way for Halloween. Subtle, yet funny.
8. Moana
Moana 2 premiered late November and was much anticipated so I think we’ll see Moana costumes this year. They’re easy to pull off and instantly recognizable.
We did an entire Moana birthday party for my daughter, complete with a delicious and gorgeous Moana cake that I DIY-ed, and it was a blast!
9. Phillies fan taking the baseball from a kid
This one is TOTALLY on trend! I’m sure you’ve seen the viral video now of the Philadelphia Phillies fan taking the baseball from the kid at a recent game. I’m a Phillies fan myself, so I can laugh at this as much as anyone. This would be awesome as a Duo Halloween costume for both adults and kids – bonus points if you have a kid in your life who loves baseball and already has the glove, ball, hat and gear to make a cheap last minute costume!
10. 6/7 Viral Internet Meme
Like what the deal with this, right? It’s a meme among the Gen Alpha group. It started as a rap song from Dkrilla “Doot Doot (6,7). In the song the rapper repeats the numbers as lyrics. it’s associated with basketball star LaMelo Ball and has become a Tik Tok trend. If you’re still lost, don’t fret. I am too. I just added it here because ya know, it’s a trend.
11. Yellowstone
Yellowstone is hugely popular and with the final episode airing in December 2024, these beloved characters are still fresh in our minds. Plus who doesn’t want to be a cowboy or cowgirl for the night, especially when you look like Rip. It’s the perfect last-minute Halloween costume too!
12. Despicable Me
With the release of Despicable Me 4 in the summer of 2024, and the fact that the minions are just so darn lovable, I think we’ll see these costumes in full effect. My family and I did this them one year, complete with Gru, Lucy Wilde, and (my favorite villain) Vector, and it was a total blast!

13. Drake and Kendrick Lamar
With Kendrick Lamar’s Superbowl performance and his beef with Drake, this could be a fun duo costume to embrace with a friend.
Actually, this could even be a good trio costume– one person goes as Drake, one as Kendrick Lamar, and the 3rd friend dresses as beef! Get it? Ha!
14. Smurfs
With the new Smurfs movie slated to come out summer of 2025, I think we may see a bunch of blue! This could make for a really cute family costume as well.
15. Sabrina Carpenter
I feel like Sabrina Carpenter was everywhere this year and would make an adorable Halloween costume. With the popularity of songs like Espresso and Taste we may see a lot of blonde wigs and Sabrina Carpenter costumes.
16. Eggs and Money bags
There was a lot of talk about the high press of eggs especially during the election season. This would be an easy one to pull off for a couple or two BFFS.
17. The Bride of Frankenstein
With actress Maggie Gyllenhaal’s movie The Bride! slated to come out late September 2025, we’ll likely see a resurgence of these classic vintage monster icon characters.
18. Superman
This is a classic choice for any year but this year especially with the new Superman movie, Superman: Legacy. It stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.
This is perfect for a group costume because there are so many additional superhero and villains you can easily add.
19. Elon Musk and President Trump
Another good duo costume with these two dominated the news in 2026. Just remember, the night is supposed to be fun so whether you like these two or not, it’s a celebratory night- not one meant for division.
20. Beetlejuice
With the release of Beetlejuice 2 in 2024, I think we’ll still see plenty of these costumes. “Shrunken head Bob” was big last year, but there are loads of characters for inspiration.
21. Chappel Roan Hot to Go
With Chappel Roan’s popularity this past year an her eccentric costumes and make-up, you could certainly draw inspiration from her for Halloween. If your group is looking for a last minute costume, Grab 7 sheets of paper or cardstock and write the one letter on each page.
Spell out H-O-T-T-O-G-O and each of you wear one letter. Spelling out one of her most popular songs, you and your friends will literally be “Hot-to-go!”
Drones were big this year with them appearing unexpectedly in droves over the state of New Jersey. Saesha Shetty on youtube made a fancy-looking one to wear. You could create your own with cardboard.
22. Paddington
The successful film franchise’s third movie, Paddington in Peru, was released in the U.S. on Valentine’s Day. The loveable bear with his blue coat and red hat is instantly recognizable. This is also one of those easy DIY costumes and could be a family affair with other characters included.
23. Snow White
The new Snow White came out spring of 2025. It’s a live-action musical that “reimagines” the classic 1937 film.
24. The Fantastic 4
The Fantastic Four: First Steps came out recently. This is a great group costume so I think we’ll be seeing quite a bit of blue.
25. Hunger Games
The next book in The Hunger Games series, Sunrise on the Reaping came out this year. It takes place between Songbirds and Snakes and The Hunger Games. It opens at the Reaping for the 50th Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell. We’ll no doubt see a resurgence in the popularity of these costumes.
Honorable Mentions – Pirates and Poison Ivy
While I’m not sure these will be the trendiest costumes for 2026, I think both Pirate Costumes and Poison Ivy Costumes are always in style and adorable.
I especially like Pirates because they’re perfect last-minute-costumes you can often throw together with items you already have in your closet!

Baby yoda and Star Wars costumes never go out of style. I dressed my infant as Princess Leia one year and it was adorable.

Celebrity costumes like Taylor Swift and Sabrina Carpenter will be big this year. Also Disney princess costumes are always a hit. I also think with the smash his movie KPop Demon Hunters – that KPop Outfits will be big this year.
