How to master your Vector costume from Despicable Me
Are you looking to embody the hilarious villain Vector this Halloween?
You’re in luck!
If you want to steal the show (literally) at your next costume party, we’ll show you how to do it.
I dressed as Vector when my family embodied the Despicable Me characters for our annual church trunk-or-treat last year.
He’s one of my favorite characters ever and this was such a blast!
Not to mention the “costume” was seriously comfortable because it was a tracksuit. What a win/win!
So let’s jump in on how to take on this affable villain.

Who is Vector from Despicable Me?
He’s the perfect blend of genius and goofball.
Vector in Despicable Me 2, was originally named Victor Perkins.
He’s childish and nerdy.
He says he’s changed his name to “Vector” and is voted the World’s #1 supervillain after stealing the Great Pyramid of Giza.
He’s also the son of the evil bank owner who makes loan decisions that can make or break aspiring villains.

Essential components for your Vector costume
- Orange Jogging suit: First things first, get yourself an orange suit. Nothing screams Vector costume like that! The more comfortable the pants, the better. I kept my outfit for other occasions because it was seriously cozy. If you’re looking for a cute women’s orange jumpsuit, you can find one here. And you never know when you might get invited to a Tennessee game and need the outfit.
- White Shoes: Vector is all about comfort when he’s plotting his next heist, so some clean white sneakers are the way to go.
- Black Wig Vector’s hair is a signature part of the costume. The more you can make it look like a bowl cut, the better!
- Black square glasses Another key piece of the costume!
Optional extras for your costume
- Shrink ray gun – one of his weapons of choice! I actually just used my son’s Nerf gun for this because I already had it.
- Squid and squid launcher gun Ok so we had a squid (I think the exact one I have linked here) for another occasion at our house and I carried it as part of my costume. It makes me laugh now!
- White Bike Helmet– Vector occasionally wears this and it’s kind of funny.
- Brown eye pencil for freckles – I may have gone a little nuts with the extra freckles on my face (I already have plenty) but this was fun!
- Belly Pillow– we’re not shaming here but let’s be honest, Vector has a little something extra around the middle! Also, if anyone asks why you’re downing the nachos at the party you can say it’s because you need to stay in character!
How to put together your perfect Vector Costume
Put on your orange jumpsuit, your black wig, and your glasses.
Done.
To make my costume complete, I added some extra freckles on my upper checks with a brown eye pencil. I chose the outfit I did because the price was right. I also added a small pillow to my lower belly to enhance it and conquer the pear body shape that Vector has mastered.
The Vector costume is a great addition to a Despicable ME group theme.
Vector is a great addition to a group or family costume. Our family did the Despicable ME theme last year and all our friends would comment how fun we looked.
We picked it because we thought it was one of many great church trunk-or-treat ideas and it was – even though the event got moved inside because of rain.
Classic Vector quotes that are rich with snarkiness
- “Oh yeah, I’m applying for a new villain loan. Go by the name of ‘Vector.’ It’s a mathematical term, represented by an arrow with both direction and magnitude. Vector! That’s me, because I’m committing crimes with both direction and magnitude. Oh yeah!”
- “I’m not Victor anymore. Victor was my nerd name. Now I’m Vector!”
- “Curse you, tiny toilet!”
- “For the record, it’s a warmup suit, they are NOT pajamas.
Other Vectors who nailed the costume
The Vector costume has been a popular one in the past few years, especially with the Despicable Me movies skyrocketing at the box office.
This Vector Costume is especially fabulous. This family nailed it.
I thought the family pictured above knocked their Despicable ME costumes out of the park. This was posted by costume-works.com.
There’s nothing evil about this precious guy pictured above from Small Fry Blog. What a doll! I do believe his mom made his costume so way to go mama!
Doesn’t the Vector above look like he’d be fun to hang out with? This was posted by Amanda Dague.
