Gorgeous Horse Barn Transformations You Need To See
If you’re a horse lover or appreciate stunning architecture, you’re in for a horse barn transformation treat!
Since we moved to Kentucky from California years ago, I’ve come to appreciate the beauty of a horse barn.
Something is calming, earthy, and simply soothing about one. Maybe it’s the fact that they house one of the most graceful and majestic creatures ever to trot the plent.
Or that they seem to tell a story in and of themselves – something about them is enticing.
Not too far from where I live in horse country Kentucky, is a beautiful barn that underwent a 33 million dollar remodel to become an outstanding farm-to-table restaurant, bar, bourbon tasting spot, and thoroughbred horse tour destination.
It’s called Barn8.
Visiting that spot, helped cultivate my love for all things horse barn and it’s a great place to hit up if you’re coming to town for the Kentucky Derby. More on that later.
Whether you’re dreaming of your ideal barn or just love admiring architectural masterpieces, join us as we explore some of the most spectacular horse barns you need to see.

The Barn at Fearrington Village
- Location: Pittsboro, North Carolina, USA
- Transformation: Repurposed as a charming restaurant and inn. The barn’s rustic charm and historic elements blend seamlessly with its new role as a dining and lodging destination.

The Horse Shoe Farm
- Location: Hendersonville, North Carolina
- Transformation: It was a thriving cattle farm in the 1950s. When the property was sold in the 90s the barns became filled with classic and vintage cars. The barns played host to car shows and events until the current owners bought it and turned it into a retreat with lodging, a restaurant, and a spa in the remodeled barn.
- Personal anecdote: We had a portion of my mom’s 80th birthday celebration here with a girls’ spa day in the barn and lunch near the silos. My nephew’s wife even caught a chicken while we were walking around! Gobble. Gobble.

Nicura Ranch Stable Suite
- Location: Berea, Kentucky
- Transformation: This AirBnB I found offers 5 guest suites connected to the working barn so guests can get “up close and personal” with the horses and other animals that live there.
- Personal anecdote: Hotels are so out. Folks are constantly looking for unique accommodations and this one I think might offer a truly “Kentucky” experience!

Horse Barn Remodel in The Catskills
- Location: Catskills, New York
- Transformation: I found this project on Stable Style and loved it. The website says the remodel from an old horse barn to a guest house was done by General Assembly for actress Amanda Seyfried who was purchasing the property. They kept as much of the original barn structure as possible and even turned the stall doors into bedroom doors. The installed glass behind the gate bars for privacy.
- Personal anecdote: I love actress Amanda Seyfried, especially in Dear John and Mama Mia so I like picturing her here in this beautiful spot. Pic above from Barn8 Restaurant

Barn8 on Hermitage Farm
- Location: Goshen, Kentucky
- Transformation: Hermitage Farm has been a farm for more than a century. Winners of the Kentucky Derby, Kentucky Oaks, and Breeder’s Cup have been raised there. The current owners purchased Hermitage Farm to save it from suburban development. They then spent around 33 million to renovate a horse stable into a farm-to-table restaurant, bar, and event space. You can also enjoy a bourbon-tasting tour and encounter the farm’s thoroughbreds.
- Personal anecdote: I live in horse country Kentucky so I love this spot. The menu changes seasonally and the bar is just beautiful. If your group is big enough you can reserve the tables in the stalls for dinner. The old hayloft has been converted into a modern event space with the original floor and rafters. There’s a reported $70k crystal chandelier hanging above the area. Beautiful for weddings or parties.
